Baseball Game Preview: Green County Dragons vs. Fort Knox Eagles

The Green County Dragons will face off against the Fort Knox Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Green County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Green County lost 14-1 to Adair County on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Dragons in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost four in a row.

Green County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Houk, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Knox). They blew past Iroquois 24-2 on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Eli Ortega and Gavin Saucedo did most of the damage at the plate: Ortega scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Saucedo scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Saucedo also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Evan Castaneda was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Fort Knox always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fort Knox's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Green County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5-2.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Green County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Fort Knox struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Green County took their win against Fort Knox in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
