Baseball Recap: Bethel Comes Up Short

Bethel extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They came up short against the Swett Warriors, falling 8-0. Considering the last time the Jaguars couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Swett, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

For Swett's part, Michael Golden made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Golden also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Swett is 5-0-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Golden was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Gibson, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Swett: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-4-2 otherwise.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Warriors beat Bethel by a score of 12-1 on Friday.
