Baseball Recap: Central Cambria Takes a Loss

Central Cambria easily dispatched Westmont Hilltop on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Red Devils fell just short of the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Devils of the 6-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Owen Harringer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grady Snyder and Mason Pittsinger did some serious damage despite the final result: Snyder got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while Pittsinger went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Pittsinger has launched this season. JD Brouse was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Central Cambria's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Cambria will head out to take on Bedford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, they will venture away from home to challenge Bishop Guilfoyle at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
