6A Region 1 recap October 1, 2013
Murphy added to the longest winning streak in 6A Region 1 this week by beating LeFlore, 34-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Panthers.
Blount was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Vigor. The Leopards came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 37 last week.
Herlandez Corley was a key player and the best on defense this week as McGill-Toolen defeated Daphne. The 6-foot-4 defensive lineman racked up 2.0 sacks.
DePriest Turner threw for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 21-24 with 1 interception.
Kameron Maye was the best receiver in the league this week as Murphy bested the Rattlers. Maye racked up 8 receptions for 178 yards. Michael Hudson helped Murphy's passing attack out by catching 9 balls for 114 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Harry Satterwhite of the Yellowjackets is the league leader in passing yards this season with 882. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Maye. The Murphy star has 25 catches for 492 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Blount and McGill-Toolen. The Leopards comes into the matchup ranked 21st in the state, while Bart Sessions' team ranks fourth.
The Yellowjackets' offense has scored 240 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Blount has allowed only 68 on the year.
McGill-Toolen and the Trojans played the closest game in 6A Region 1 this week, with McGill-Toolen eventually emerging with a 28-24 victory. Spencer Ruggs ran for 106 yards and caught 1 pass for 10 yards during the win.
