Independence has gone a perfect 10-0 against Liberty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Patriots will welcome the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Independence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Independence made easy work of Mingo Central and carried off a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 13 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Independence got a great performance from Kenzie Pierce as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Pierce has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Lilly was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Parks, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are 12-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Liberty posted their closest win since April 20, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Midland Trail 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.
Maddie Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Liberty saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was McKinlea Hill, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Liberty's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Independence, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Independence has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Independence took their win against Liberty in their previous matchup on April 8th by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
