Queen Creek has gone a perfect 5-0 against Boulder Creek recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. Queen Creek will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Queen Creek nor Desert Ridge made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jaguars, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Jaguars since April 15, 2021.
Alexis Mendez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Queen Creek's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tayla Falquez, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Boulder Creek took on Liberty on Tuesday. The Jaguars fell just short of the Lions by a score of 9-8.
Lauren Grunert stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Bailey Kerr, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple and two RBI.
Queen Creek's victory was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Boulder Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 19-7.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Queen Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like Boulder Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Queen Creek took their victory against Boulder Creek when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
