Baseball Recap: Middletown Gets the Win

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Middletown nor Pine Bush made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Middie Bears skirted past the Bushmen 3-2. This was payback for the Middie Bears, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Rudy Cherry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has become a key player for Middletown: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 1-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaleb McZorn, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Reinaldo Rios also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Middletown is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pine Bush, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Middletown will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bushmen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
