Softball Game Preview: Hudson's Bay Eagles vs. Ridgefield Spudders

Hudson's Bay is 0-10 against Ridgefield since April of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Spudders at 6:00 p.m. Hudson's Bay has given up an average of 22.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hudson's Bay is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 29-0 to Columbia River.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ridgefield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Hockinson with a sharp 17-3 win on Wednesday.

Madeline Bruguier made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Abbey Hite was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Tava Whitlow was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Ridgefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Ridgefield's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Hudson's Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Hudson's Bay might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Ridgefield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
