Baseball Recap: Whitney Wins Going Away Against West Park

Whitney barely beat West Park the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went the Whitney Wildcats' way against the West Park Panthers on Tuesday as the Whitney Wildcats made off with a 9-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Corden Pettey looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce Farris, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Josh Mendoza was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Whitney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Park only managed eight hits.

The victory got Whitney back to even at 2-2. As for West Park, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2.

Coming up, Whitney will be playing at home against Vacaville at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Park, they will take on Yuba City at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Yuba City's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so West Park's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
