Basketball Recap: Coventry Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Windham

On Thursday, Coventry faced Windham in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Coventry Patriots lost 56-32 to the Windham Whippets. The match marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Coventry's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hailey Mayo, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 37.5% of Coventry's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Reese Jeamel was another key player, putting up four points and three blocks.

Windham found their leader in sophomore Asihja Harris, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Harris has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaida Green, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Coventry's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2. As for Windham, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coventry won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Canton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Windham, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Griswold at 7:00 p.m.
