Softball Recap: Coalfield Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sunbright

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coalfield). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sunbright Tigers a 25-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashton Chamblee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Davis, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Laymance, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.

Coalfield has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.1 runs on average over those games. As for Sunbright, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Coalfield didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-3 victory against Oliver Springs on the 6th. Sunbright does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
