The King Philip Regional Warriors will face off against the Taunton Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (King Philip Regional 2.3, Taunton 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
King Philip Regional is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against North Attleborough on Monday. They fell just short of the Rocketeers by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Warriors' first of the season.
Nate Pennini was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, King Philip Regional saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tommy Gately, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Taunton made easy work of Canton on Monday and carried off a 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Cameron Tomaszycki made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joseph Benoit, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Knief, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Taunton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canton only managed three hits.
Having lost for the first time this season, King Philip Regional fell to 10-1. As for Taunton, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
King Philip Regional came up short against Taunton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
