Baseball Game Preview: Shepherd Pirates vs. Hardin-Jefferson Hawks

Shepherd is 0-5 against Hardin-Jefferson since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m.

Shepherd is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Thursday. They lost 9-0 to Hargrave.

Meanwhile, Hardin-Jefferson had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Lions.

Owen Sieve spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. Hardin-Jefferson is 3-1 when Sieve posts ten or more strikeouts, but 10-11-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Kade McReynolds was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Ryan Samoff was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Hardin-Jefferson pushed their record up to 13-12-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Shepherd, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
