Basketball Recap: Horizon Comes Up Short

Horizon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Legacy Lightning. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lightning apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Horizon lost, don't look at Kaitlin Schumann. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. Schumann has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Newble, who posted ten points.

Leading Legacy to victory were Olivia Mortensen and Gracie Bradley. Mortensen dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards, while Bradley went 7 for 11 on her way to 17 points and six rebounds. Bradley is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Gianna Schmidt, who had ten points.

Horizon's record now sits at 8-7. As for Legacy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Horizon will host Mead at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. As for Legacy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Longmont at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Legacy is on a five-game streak of home wins, Longmont a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
