Baseball Game Preview: Bluegrass United Bluehawks vs. Christian Educational Consortium Cougars

The Bluegrass United Bluehawks will face off against the Christian Educational Consortium Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Bluegrass United is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Bethlehem just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Eagles/Banshees by a score of 6-5.

John Byrd put in work no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Bluegrass United is 2-1 when Byrd posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise.

Byrd wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Hawkins, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Kenton Brooks also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Christian Educational Consortium was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shelby County.

Xander Collins led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Jack Patterson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Christian Educational Consortium's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Bluegrass United, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Bluegrass United skirted past Christian Educational Consortium 5-3 when the teams last played on Saturday. Will the Bluehawks repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
