Basketball Recap: Maiden Extends Winning Streak to Six

Maiden came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Newton-Conover Red Devils with a sharp 79-53 victory. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maiden to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landen Lyerly, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Lyerly is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raheim Misher, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Maiden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Newton-Conover lost, don't look at Braxton Eckard. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points and eight boards. Bryce Mitchell was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 10 points.

Maiden's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Newton-Conover, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Maiden didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 95-82 victory against East Burke on the 24th. As for Newton-Conover, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-59 win against West Caldwell on the 24th.
