Football Recap: Churchill Comes Up Short

Churchill came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against the Alamo Heights Mules, falling 54-24. The loss continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Mules: they've now lost three in a row.

Churchill's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Watkins, who picked up 95 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Churchill didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mason Cortez and Elliott Watts. Churchill received some extra help from Jackson Crump, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Churchill's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Alamo Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Churchill will welcome Clemens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Alamo Heights, they will challenge Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
