Basketball Game Preview: Rio Grande City Rattlers vs. Martin Tigers

Rio Grande City is 1-9 against Martin since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rio Grande City Rattlers will head out on the road to take on the Martin Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Rio Grande City will be strutting in after a win while Martin will be coming in after a loss.

Rio Grande City is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Juarez-Lincoln 93-41 on Wednesday. Given the Rattlers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 476th, while the Huskies are ranked 1612th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Martin unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. The game between them and Nixon didn't end well, with Martin falling 53-35.

Rio Grande City has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Martin, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-14.

Rio Grande City skirted past Martin 61-58 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rio Grande City since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
