Baseball Game Preview: Riverdale Rams vs. Sterling Golden Warriors

The Riverdale Rams will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Sterling Golden Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Riverdale has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Sterling will come in with three straight victories.

Riverdale managed to slip by Byron the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Riverdale lost 9-3 to Byron on Saturday.

Riverdale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Fritch, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Colton Huffman also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Sterling not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 6, 2024. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Kewanee.

Drew Nettleton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Lincoln Davis was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nick Capp, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Sterling was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kewanee only posted a batting average of .043.

Riverdale now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Sterling, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Riverdale came out on top in a nail-biter against Sterling in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Does Riverdale have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sterling turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
