Baseball Recap: Birmingham Takes a Loss

Birmingham extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 17-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the El Camino Real Royals. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Patriots have suffered since March 28th.

As for El Camino Real, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For El Camino Real's part, the result came thanks to Devin Gonor's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. Gonor has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, El Camino Real saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Howe, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

As of now, neither Birmingham nor the Royals have any future games scheduled.
