Baseball Game Preview: Amador Valley Dons vs. Dougherty Valley Wildcats

The Amador Valley Dons are taking a road trip to square off against the Dougherty Valley Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Amador Valley nor Dougherty Valley posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Amador Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Monte Vista on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2. It was the first time this season that the Dons let down their fans at home.

Brennan Baptist was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Amador Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was George Fagundes, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Fagundes also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Dougherty Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Granada, falling 8-2.

Dougherty Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Amador Valley, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Everything went Amador Valley's way against Dougherty Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Amador Valley made off with a 16-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Amador Valley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
