Softball Recap: Langley Takes Down Ranked Mclean

Langley faced McLean in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Saxons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Highlanders, sneaking past 1-0. Winning may never get old, but the Saxons sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

The result came thanks to Norah Jacques's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

Langley pushed their record up to 13-5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for McLean, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 13-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Langley will host Washington-Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saxons are facing the Generals at the right time seeing as the Generals are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for McLean, they will be playing at home against Wakefield at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
