Basketball Game Preview: Granite City Warriors vs. Belleville West Maroons

Granite City hasn't had much luck against Belleville West recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Granite City Warriors will square off against the Belleville West Maroons at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

On Friday, Granite City took a blow against Edwardsville, falling 60-30. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Tigers are ranked 44th).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 62 points the game before, Belleville West was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They were beaten by Alton 68-15. The Maroons haven't had much luck with the Redbirds recently, as the team's come up short the last nine times they've met.

Belleville West's loss dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Granite City, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-17.

Granite City couldn't quite finish off Belleville West in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 39-37. Can Granite City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
