            Football Recap: Ashe County Huskies vs. East Wilkes Cardinals        
        
		
        
        
            
Ashe County was the  41-0 winner over East Wilkes when they last played one another  back in March of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Huskies were beaten by the Cardinals 47-14 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Cardinals are ranked 147th).
 When it comes to explaining why Ashe County lost, don't look at  Jaxon Dillard. Despite the final result, he picked up 106 receiving yards and one  score.
 East Wilkes got their  victory on the backs of several key players, but it was  Ty Bumgarner out in front who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of  touchdowns on only nine carries. Bumgarner has become a key player for the Cardinals: the team is undefeated when he posts  at  least  80  rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise.  Ayden Guessford was in the mix  as well, providing East Wilkes with two TDs.
This is the second loss in a row for Ashe County and  nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for East Wilkes,  the  win made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 5-3.
 Ashe County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  matchup,  a  34-6  loss against West Wilkes on the 24th. As for East Wilkes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next  contest,  a  66-7  victory against Elkin on the 24th.
