Baseball Game Preview: Hillcrest Hawks vs. Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves

For the second straight game, Hillcrest will face off against Thornton Fractional South. The Hawks will head out to face off against the Red Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillcrest has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 26.

Thornton Fractional South hit Hillcrest with a four-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks fell 12-7 to the Red Wolves.

For Thornton Fractional South's part, Juan Lozano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lozano also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Thornton Fractional South is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-17-1 otherwise. Lozano was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Blake Sims was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Chris Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Thornton Fractional South pushed their record up to 10-18-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hillcrest, their loss dropped their record down to 3-19.
