Soccer Game Preview: Newberry vs. Chapin

Newberry is 0-3 against Chapin since March of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Newberry Bulldogs will challenge the Chapin Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Newberry has three straight wins, Chapin has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Last Thursday, Newberry narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Dixie 2-1. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one goal.

Kelvin Perez was the driving force of Newberry's attack as he scored both of Newberry's goals, bringing his season total up to four goals.

Meanwhile, Chapin didn't have quite enough to beat Catawba Ridge on Friday and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by just one goal.

Newberry pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three matches. As for Chapin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Newberry might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Chapin when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Newberry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
