Basketball Recap: Finley Johnson Key Part of a Team Effort in Lobos Win

There's no place like home for Conifer, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They strolled past the Fort Lupton Bluedevils with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 48-34. The Lobos have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bluedevils, too.

Conifer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Finley Johnson out in front who posted 11 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bree Leslie, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Fort Lupton had strong showings from Daniella Aviles, who had 11 points in addition to six boards and five steals, and Marely Gomez, who put up 12 points. Gomez has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Maddie Beverly was another key player, putting up three points along with six rebounds and six steals.

Conifer pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.8 points per game. As for Fort Lupton, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coincidentally, Conifer and Fort Lupton will both be playing Alameda the next time they take the court. Fort Lupton will head out to face Alameda on Friday, while Conifer will head out to face them at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
