Preview: Claxton Tigers vs. Screven County Gamecocks
The Claxton Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Screven County Gamecocks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Claxton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Claxton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They took down Memorial Day 55-41.
Claxton found their leader in underclassman Jayda Jordan, who scored 29 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Jordan has scored at least a third of Claxton's points. Another player making a difference was Zarriana Ortaviyah harden, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Screven County stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 64-32 victory over Jefferson County at home. Given Screven County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Jefferson County is ranked 498th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alailah Scott and Jaliah Roberts were among the main playmakers for Screven County as the former scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals and the latter scored 21 points along with seven steals. Scott has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Jackson, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Claxton's victory bumped their record up to 6-19. As for Screven County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Claxton took a serious blow against Screven County in their previous meeting back in January, falling 69-29. Can Claxton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
