Baseball Recap: West Shamokin Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Highlands, West Shamokin was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays 11-1. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wolves yet this season.

Max Long made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Long was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, West Shamokin let Luke McCullough and Ben McConnell run wild. McCullough scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while McConnell scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most hits McCullough has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Shoop, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

West Shamokin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conemaugh Valley only managed six hits.

West Shamokin's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2. As for Conemaugh Valley, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, West Shamokin will welcome Purchase Line at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Conemaugh Valley, they will venture away from home to take on Marion Center at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
