New Castle is 8-2 against Northeastern since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Knights at 10:00 a.m. New Castle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, New Castle turned things around against Daleville on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Broncos 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since May 10, 2025.
Emily Wells spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Alyssa Burris was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Armstrong, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
New Castle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Daleville struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeastern). They never let Richmond get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Thursday. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Jocelyn Allen and Makayla Hopkins made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Allen tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hopkins didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Allen went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Hopkins went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, Fiona Breitenbach and Addisyn Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Breitenbach went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and two runs, while Wright went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those doubles were Breitenbach's first of the season. Karri Gammon was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
New Castle's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Northeastern, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
New Castle skirted past Northeastern 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
