Preview: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Canyon del Oro Dorados
After three games on the road, Salpointe Catholic is heading back home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Canyon del Oro Dorados at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Salpointe Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 515 points over their last seven contests.
Salpointe Catholic put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Nogales 73-24 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-8.
Sidney Anderson and Taliyah Henderson were among the main playmakers for Salpointe Catholic as the former scored 13 points along with six assists and three steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Henderson has scored all season. Hannah Williams was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 61-54 to Pueblo. Canyon del Oro has struggled against Pueblo recently, as their match on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Canyon del Oro got a solid performance out of Halie Fuller, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Fuller has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 18 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madisen Fleury, who scored 13 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Salpointe Catholic pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39.4 points. As for Canyon del Oro, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Salpointe Catholic against Canyon del Oro in their previous meeting on January 10th as the team secured a 68-11 victory. With Salpointe Catholic ahead 49-2 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
