Basketball Recap: Kayla Munn's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Coventry over Garfield Heights

Coventry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Garfield Heights Bulldogs at home by a 43-28 margin. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kayla Munn, who posted 11 points and six boards. Lacie Matheney was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Coventry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Coventry's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Garfield Heights, their record is now 12-9.

Coventry and Garfield Heights could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Coventry will square off against Perry at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday down 390 places (622 vs. 232). Similarly, Garfield Heights (ranked 544th) will meet Madison (ranked 201st) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
