Softball Game Preview: Spring Grove Rockets vs. York Suburban Trojans

Spring Grove has gone a perfect 4-0 against York Suburban recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Rockets will challenge the Trojans at 4:15 p.m. Spring Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Spring Grove turned things around against Gettysburg on Friday. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 14-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rockets considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Skyla Sigmon made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Sigmon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jozalynn Hartman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Laiken Ilgenfritz was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, York Suburban was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against West York Area, falling 20-3.

Celina Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Molly Murray also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Spring Grove picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-9. As for York Suburban, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Everything went Spring Grove's way against York Suburban in their previous meeting back in March, as Spring Grove made off with an 18-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
