Braves to face teams from Hawaii and Oregon in addition to trip to Lone Star State.

High school football powerhouse St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) announced its 2022 schedule Monday highlighted by a season-opener in Texas, a game at the University of Oregon's Autzen Stadium and an October showdown with league rival Mater Dei (Santa Ana).

Coming off a 10-2 campaign in 2021, the Braves will open the season Aug. 26 against perennial Texas contender Allen in what is sure to draw a big crowd to Eagle Stadium, one of prep football's palaces with a capacity of 18,000 fans.

Other non-league matchups of note include a Sept. 9 meeting with Central Catholic (Portland, Ore.) on the home field of the Oregon Ducks and a home game against Kahuku (Hawaii).

The biggest date on Bosco's schedule is Oct. 7 when it meets Trinity League foe Mater Dei in what has become the hottest rivalry in high school football nationally in recent years. The programs have combined for three of the last five national titles and have become unmatched pipelines to the college level.

Entering his 13th year at Bosco, head coach Jason Negro is 127-27 since taking over the program prior to the 2010. Under his leadership, the Braves have won three state titles and were named MaxPreps National Champion in 2019.

Five-star Matayo Uiagalelei is the highest-rated returning player for Bosco. Regarded as the No. 21 prospect in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports, he caught 24 passes for 335 yards and six touchdowns at tight end while notching six tackles for loss and three sacks defensively as a junior.
