Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Sandcrabs vs. Jones Trojans

Calhoun is 1-7 against Jones since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Calhoun Sandcrabs will face off against the Jones Trojans at 6:15 p.m.

Calhoun is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-48 heartbreaker at the hands of Rockport-Fulton.

Despite the loss, Calhoun saw an underclassman step up: freshman Farrah Garcia posted 17 points. That was a full 35.4% of Calhoun's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Chavana, who had 13 points.

Meanwhile, Jones got the win against Ingleside on Tuesday by a conclusive 66-42.

Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Jones, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.

Calhoun won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, slipping by Jones 40-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
