Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Coal City

The matchup between Coal City and Kankakee on Thursday hardly resembled the 3-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Coalers blew past the Kays 20-5. The result was nothing new for the Coalers, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kellen Forsythe was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe McHugh, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coal City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kankakee only managed six hits.

The win (which was Coal City's fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-11. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Kankakee, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-19.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coal City will take on Rochester at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Coalers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Kankakee, they will challenge Thornton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
