The Oxford Prep Griffins will square off against the Warren County Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Oxford Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Oxford Prep is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since May 10, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Roxboro Community, falling 11-2. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Griffins' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Marleigh Swanner and Hailey Crowder stepped up to the plate in a big way. Swanner scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Crowder went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Warren County put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against KIPP P as they made off with a 23-1 win. Fans of the Eagles have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
The team relied heavily on Mariah Harris, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyanna Richardson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
Warren County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Warren County pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 18.0 runs this season. As for Oxford Prep, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oxford Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Warren County struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oxford Prep took their victory against Warren County when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-3 score. Will the Griffins repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
