Volleyball Recap: Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy Comes Up Short

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Merritt Island Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy took Merritt Island into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13.

Audrey Herbert paced Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy's offense, picking up 18 kills. Herbert got some help from Julie Watt and her 43 assists. Brooke Ellingson controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Merritt Island can attribute much of their success to Sarah Niazi, who had 12 digs and three aces. That's the most digs Niazi has posted over her last 14 matchups.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Merritt Island, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-2.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and Merritt Island should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 75th) will meet Viera (ranked 396th) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Merritt Island will take on Edgewood at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (21 vs. 119).
