Marion County and Mercer County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Marion County Knights will face off against the Mercer County Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Things were looking good for Marion County after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 4-1 to Larue County. The loss was the Knights' first of the season.
Gracyn Mattingly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Marion County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bridgette Farris, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Mercer County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Casey County on Tuesday. Mercer County walked away with an 11-6 win over Casey County. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won five in a row.
Ava Musick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Musick was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzie Carlton, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Jaley Bowman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Having lost for the first time this season, Marion County fell to 2-1. As for Mercer County, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Marion County skirted past Mercer County 10-9 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marion County since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
