Softball Preview: Englewood Pirates vs. Centaurus Warriors
Englewood has been on the road for six straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will host the Centaurus Warriors at 4:30 p.m.
Last Saturday, Englewood didn't have quite enough to beat Middle Park and fell 8-7.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Centaurus). They blew past Platte Canyon 26-6 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Nora Midness made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). What's more, she also racked up three hits, the mostshe's had since back in August. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two stolen bases. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
In other batting news, Centaurus got a massive performance out of Kaitlyn Long, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Sanders, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Centaurus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Englewood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Centaurus, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
