Softball Recap: Ursuline Academy Has No Trouble Against St. Martin's Episcopal

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central Lafourche, Ursuline Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the St. Martin's Episcopal Saints as Ursuline Academy made off with a 17-4 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 13 runs or more this season.

Dixie Tatum made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Tatum was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 5-for-6. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Bellaci, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Gonzales was another key player, scoring three runs while going 5-for-5.

Ursuline Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .512. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Martin's Episcopal only posted a batting average of .250.

Ursuline Academy's record is now 5-7. As for St. Martin's Episcopal, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-6 record.

Ursuline Academy has already played their next match (against Morris Jeff), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for St. Martin's Episcopal, they will square off against Fisher at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
