Ellis dropped their record down to 9-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Russell Broncos. If the Railroaders were looking for revenge after losing 10-2 to the Broncos when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ellis saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Aschenbrenner, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Aschenbrenner is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Russell, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On Russell's side, Sam Thielen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Thielen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Russell is undefeated when Thielen posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Pierce Schoenberger was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jaxon Ross was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Russell beat Ellis by a score of 4-1 later that day.
