Softball Game Preview: Southampton Academy Raiders vs. Tidewater Academy Warriors

Southampton Academy is a perfect 10-0 against Tidewater Academy since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Raiders will challenge the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southampton Academy has three straight victories, Tidewater Academy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Southampton Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Amelia Academy on April 2nd. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the Patriots. Considering the Raiders have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dutchess Rose made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Reagan Webb was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Braun, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Southampton Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Fuqua hit Tidewater Academy with a seven-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Falcons, falling 13-1.

Southampton Academy now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for Tidewater Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Southampton Academy took their win against Tidewater Academy in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
