Softball Game Preview: American Canyon Wolves vs. Maria Carrillo Pumas

The American Canyon Wolves will challenge the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

American Canyon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Vintage on Friday. They lost 8-1 to the Crushers. The Wolves have struggled against the Crushers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Madison Del Castillo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maria Carrillo). Everything went their way against Ukiah on Saturday as they made off with a 17-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pumas in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

Rachaely Yaya was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabella Tapia, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Maria Carrillo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Maria Carrillo's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for American Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5-1.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. American Canyon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Maria Carrillo struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

American Canyon was able to grind out a solid win over Maria Carrillo in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 3-0. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pumas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
