Basketball Recap: Sadie Davis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Manila over Panguitch

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Manila can now relate to. They received a blow on Thursday as they fell 56-38 to the Panguitch Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-40 back in November of 2024.

Manila lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sadie Davis, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 13 points and six rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Slaugh, who posted 12 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Manila smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Panguitch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mallory Henrie out in front who dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. Henrie is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brayli Frandsen, who shot 71% from the field on her way to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Manila has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season. The win was the seventh in a row for Panguitch, bringing their record for this year to 19-5.

Manila didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-53 defeat against Valley on the 28th. As for Panguitch, they have also already played their next game, a 36-31 loss against Tabiona on the 28th.
