Basketball Recap: West Florence Takes a Loss

West Florence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 35-30 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cheraw Braves. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why West Florence lost, don't look at Kaylin Davis. Despite the final result, she posted nine points and three steals. Zofia Wierzbicki was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Cheraw's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cherita Burns led the charge by posting eight points along with six steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleah Faulkner, who had 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

West Florence's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Cheraw, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.

West Florence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-3 win against Central on the 23rd. As for Cheraw, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-49 defeat against Hartsville on the 23rd.
