Softball Recap: Green Canyon Comes Up Short

Green Canyon had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-17 to make it seven. They came up short against the Orem Tigers, falling 11-4. The Wolves were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Kylie Olson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Orem, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Orem's side, Kiley Hoshnic was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Hoshnic has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sadie Groneman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cheyanne Wells, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

While Green Canyon had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
