Preview: Monument Valley Cougars vs. Monticello Buckaroo
Monument Valley has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Monticello Buckaroo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Monument Valley is ranked 137th, while Monticello is ranked 126th).
Monument Valley pushed their score all the way to 75 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their tough 96-75 defeat to Whitehorse might stick with them for a while. Monument Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 58-33.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Melias Cly, who scored 30 points. That was a full 40% of Monument Valley's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Joshua Hicks was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Monticello fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 victory over Pinnacle on Tuesday.
Monument Valley dropped their record down to 5-16 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Monticello, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season.
