The Humphreys County Cowboys will challenge the Greenville Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Humphreys County fell victim to Yazoo County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 34 runs in the game before, the Cowboys' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Greenville hadn't done well against Yazoo City recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Greenville was the clear victor by a 19-13 margin over Yazoo City. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Caleigh Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Jazmine Palmer looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Greenville got a massive performance out of Camargeona Rhodes, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-2. Rhodes is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Hope Ledlow, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Greenville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .829. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Greenville's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.8 runs. As for Humphreys County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Humphreys County took their victory against Greenville in their previous meeting on Friday by a conclusive 28-16. Will Humphreys County repeat their success, or does Greenville has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
