Recap: Sam Houston Texans vs. Grand Prairie Gophers
The Sam Houston Texans were the 80-62 winner over the Grand Prairie Gophers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Sam Houston fell to Grand Prairie 58-52. While losing is never fun, Sam Houston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 690th, while Grand Prairie is ranked 260th).
Despite the loss, Sam Houston saw an underclassman step up: Rylan Austin scored 21 points along with four steals. Terry Brock was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Sam Houston has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Grand Prairie, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sam Houston will take on Arlington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Arlington and three for Sam Houston. As for Grand Prairie, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Haltom at 7:30 p.m. Haltom will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
